History
Tuesday evening racing started way back in 19....... A Sailing Committee group managed it and was called the "Junior Sailing Committee". Some years later in 19.... a name change was made and they are now called the "Evening Race Committee". The committee consisted of 12 committee members with co-opted members joining in. Later the numbers were increased to the present time of 16 Evening Race Team. They are split into 4 teams, each running 4/5 evenings to cover the 18-week season. This means that the competitors get varied courses depending on the CRO for the evening.
The classes have changed over the years and we have more cruisers racing than any other type of boat compared to the early 60s when there were more dinghies. Currently, we have 3 Cruiser classes, Class 1,2 &3 all racing and using a RATINGS & HANDICAPS System (The National Handicap for Cruisers (NHC) System).
There are also two "One Design Classes" this year, which are "Sonars" and "Flying Fifteens".
The season starts in April and lasts for 18 weeks. The final race is the popular "Bang and Go Back Race" in September.
